Ditzy

Not sure if I shared any photos of our newest fur kid.  We got her from a nice young couple who needed to find a new home for her. They took care of her for several months, but anyway she's ours now.  We've had her about 3 month now.  We love her tons and she is so cuddly!  Unlike any of our other dogs.  Here is her favorite spot at night, when I don't have to work late.  Right in my lap!

Hub got this cute little chair and I just had to take a pic of her in it :)

In a funk

I see that I haven't posted in over 2 weeks..not intentionally.

To be honest I have been feeling like the hamster in a running wheel unable to get off.  Not that I have a lot of excitement going on in my life, more like I am back to working way too much once again. It is work, eat, work some more, sleep, get my exercise in (thank God I will never give that up), then back to same thing again. I don't strive to do this either. I do not love to work umpteen hours a day. And although I am not going to get into it in detail, I have always been the kind of person that takes pride in her work, does it diligently, thoroughly and fairly. But there are always those that cheat and take any short cut they can to better their financial position with no regard to doing things the right way and with fairness.

This is no surprise. It is in every work place if you look hard enough, sometimes you don't have to look hard at all.  Those who cheat, and can get away with it, will.  I so wish I would win the lottery, not only to solve all the money issues, but also so that I could start a business that I could run with fairness. Anyone caught cutting corners, cheating, whatever, GONE!

On second thought if I won the lottery, I wouldn't open up any business in the field I am in now.  Maybe more like opening a dog sanctuary or some other thing that will help those less fortunate. There is a special place in my heart for dogs that are no longer wanted...so maybe that...

I stopped work early today and am very glad I did. Made a new gourmet cupboard dish that I had not made before, the Kung Pao Chicken.  It was delicious and both hub and I loved the sauce (that is also part of the dish). I will post that in my other blog tomorrow.

Going to go have a dish of mint chocolate chip ice cream and watch a movie with my hub!  Later..  :)

Another surprise!

The other day I was looking out the window in the living room, I don't recall why but I saw that my canteloupe plant had worked its way not only over the balcony railing but down the side toward the front porch well actually toward the ground.

I went right to the inside of the window to get a closer look and wow, there is a canteloupe growing!

The first picture shows one of the support beams that is underneath the balcony so you can see where it is coming from, and the second picture is a close up of my new canteloupe.  :)

I am getting such a kick out of my balcony garden this year even though I do not have a ton of things in it!  The two bird nests, the first time I've tried canteloupe (though not from seed, bought a small started plant from H.E.B. when I was food shopping one day), and I finally had some of the swiss chard that I've been growing since April.

My youngest is coming home this weekend, and I thought it was next weekend so I'm glad I already had decided I am not going to work as usual. We don't have anything planned but she and her boyfriend are going to a concert, at some point not sure which day.  I don't sound too sure about anything these days do I? :)

Murphy's Law Day

Guess it is going to be a Murphy's Law Day.... got up an hour earlier to try to get a jump start on my day and get some work done before chaos found me.  Nope, system is down and so I have wasted some vital SLEEP time and in place of that have been staring down my desktop waiting for systems to kick in.

So...guess it is Murphy's Law Day...for me.. Hope that is the only incident though!

Well summer is truly here in Central Texas as it has been near or over 100 degrees for the last several days.  My cantaloupe and green peppers are still hanging in there.  The tomatoes are nearly done, as the stalks are all turning brown.  Wonder if I should just pull the remaining few green tomatoes and put them in a brown bag..think I heard that is how they can turn red.

I have been back to working a ton. Seems it is either one or the other and with rates so low, it is really busy this time around.  I can always tell when there are more job postings out there....that it is busy everywhere in this business.

Oh I almost forgot. I had a bit of a scare on Friday. It was partly my own stupid fault for putting socks on before I came down stairs, but I was getting ready to put my sneakers on to go and help my folks out with something and one of my dogs bumped into me a little when I was only one step down from the top of the stairs. Next thing I knew I felt my butt pounding one, two, three steps down before I could stop myself. I was able to stop myself (likely with angels help) with my arms and I think my right leg because I knocked out one of the thick wooden posts that run perpendicular to the railing.

I really am thankful that I stay in shape, and also do muscle building with hand weights as I don't know if my butt would have survived very many more steps without doing some major injury!  After accessing the damage, I had two scraped arms and a bruise on my butt about the size of a dime. That was in the evening around 7:00pm.  The next morning the bruise had spread to two butt cheeks and were a lot wider and were dark purple/black.  I had really done a number on my rear end.  My arms were sore like they went through overkill on the weights. BUT I was able to sit in a chair without too much discomfort and work all day, much to my surprise and delight!

The bruises have faded some and are now a light maroon color. I was able to do some walking on Sunday (didn't attempt my regular exercise).  I took the dogs walking though and Molly really pulled on the leash which hurt my sore left arm, so that didn't help any!   And yesterday tried to do my regular exercise and took it lightly..barely doing the running part...more like marching in place.  But I don't want to overdo it until I'm healed. I did make the mistake of sitting, although briefly, on my butt on the floor when I was in the process of lying down on my back during the stretching part..OUCH!

Well I think I will go water the balcony garden since I still cannot work yet. Fingers crossed it will be working fine when I get back.

Quick post

I had taken some more photos of the baby cardinals but my husband erased them. I was so LIVID!!

I went up to see if I could get any last pictures and it was as if there was one hanging around the nest to allow me one final photo before it too left the nest.

Here is the one remaining baby cardinal that was gone next time I looked..fly free and live long little ones!

They are here!

Wow, didn't realize it has been that long since I posted!  But appropriately enough, I am posting photos of the little tiny cardinals that hatched sometime over the last few days...I think there are 2. The previous post was their mother sitting on her eggs..I held the camera up above my head to take the pictures as I tried not to disturb the nest too much.

The second picture shows their unopened eyes really well. The parents were in a nearby tree letting me know full well they were not happy I was so close to their children!  I didn't water that plant and went back inside as soon as I was done watering the rest.

I was suppose to work all weekend but was having systems issues today so got to watch Olympics instead. You know it is funny when Michael Phelps did not metal last night when Lochte did I told hub that Phelps probably didn't think he needed to practice much and sure enough the commentators earlier said just that! He had not trained very much for these Olympics...and those who were in the last one..trained extra hard so that they wouldn't experience a repeat of the last games!

I may have to serve jury duty tomorrow.  I called the phone number and alas I do need to show up. So we'll see what happens. Guess I'll have to dress business casual...including a bra. ;-)  I'm going to make sure I either wear a few layers or bring a sweater or jacket. Last time I was sitting waiting it got very cold from the air conditioning.

Sort of hope I do not get picked as it is really busy at work with the mortgage rates so low.Well back to the Olympics...can't stop humming the theme song in my head!

Early Bird..literally

I got up a little earlier today so that I had some time to water my balcony garden..fingers crossed two more cantaloupe will make it. At the risk of sounding corny....I think that sometimes we are given little pleasures from God because he knows what we like. We just have to recognize them as such.

Remember when I was so enthralled with the little birds that had a nest tucked inside my zucchini planter barrel?  And the day I went to finally try to take a picture before they all flew ?...and they were already gone?

Well I happened to notice the other day what looked like the makings of a bird's nest starting in one of my hanging flowers right at eye level.  I was gitty with anticipation that there may be another nest I can watch progress from empty to eggs, to tiny birds (possibly)...to empty again.  This time I caught the early bird!! I was out there watering and glanced over at the hanging flowers that I knew had a nest in it and there she was, a female cardinal...she didn't move at all, trying to be inconspicuous for sure. But I saw her and a big grin came across my face.  I noticed a male cardinal in a tree nearby as well so based on that and the google images I looked up for cardinals, she is a female cardinal tending to her nest.  I am guessing she is in the process of laying her eggs, otherwise I am not so sure she would have been that bold to not budge.

See her?.... She is smack center where all 4 strands start to come together. Her beak is orange and she is sitting so as to see a side view of her (beak facing left). I took this photo inside the screen door while I was hiding behind the wall.

I think it is so cool that this is all going to be at eye level.  Of course I did not bother trying to water that plant today, but if I see the nest empty later on this evening before sundown I will try to water it a little. With the temperatures getting up to the 90's, can't let the watering go more than a day or so.

Well I am going to start getting to work now.  But what a nice way to start my Friday. :)
