Addition Day 32

Today the wall was broken through and the door that we used to have on the wall, has been installed for the entrance to mom's bedroom.  Here's some pictures...

Roof

Here are the roof photos as promised. At least that is done by 'the end of the month'.

Addition Day 31

I didn't get pictures today because the roofers didn't leave until around 7PM but the roof is on. Woo hoo!~ Looks very nice! 

Hopefully the inspector will come tomorrow as I think there is an inspection needed before more interior work can be done.  So needless to say the addition will NOT be done by 'end of the month' since that is tomorrow.

I'll post pictures tomorrow of the roof.  Now at least I am not worried about rain now. 

Addition Day 30 - Friday was officially day 29

The plumber did come on Friday and put the piping in that was needed to be installed for the roof so that the metal roofing can be installed hopefully within the next few days now.  I didn't post any pictures of that. So here is a few pictures of the roof with the pipes.

Saturday the contractor put a lot of materials including the kitchen cabinets in to the addition for the job while it was dry and a good opportunity to get things in there.  Today some of the insulation was installed. 

And the window that we salvaged from the dining room wall that is going to have mom's bedroom door added, was installed by the contractor just now.  It will be just on the right side once her bedroom door is opened and you walk in. There are no lights inside yet so it it was hard to take pictures inside which I tried to make as light as I could.

We got windows...

Here are today's pictures.  Although we did not take any 'before' and 'after' pictures of the tree trimming and removal, they did a great job!  Too bad I had to call them at 10:30AM and ask where the heck they were as the quote had written on it 9:00AM.  They came around 11:30AM after some phoning back and forth.  The woman who answered the phone when I first called said they knocked on the door.  NO they did not. This is the exact thing they said last fall when they were late (only used them again because they are really fantastic at what they do - it is like watching Cirque Du Soleil the way they climb the trees).  Anyway it looks great! I didn't think to try to get a video of them, but hey I was working!

The roofer needs the plumber to place the pipe (through the roof) where he needs it, before they can lay the metal roof. That was told would get done today. Nope didn't happen, plumber came and went without doing that.

Then I found out that the corner sink that I wanted for the corner of the kitchenette from the very start was not going to happen as the contractor couldn't get one and it would take 2 weeks if he had to order one. Excuse ME?!?!?!?! @#&##  Why the **** didn't you get one during the 4 1/2 months this project has been going on???  I was so livid, the contractor is lucky that he didn't tell me directly, my hubby did. Of course I'm not holding up the job 2 more weeks because of the sink but seriously?!!  That and salvaging the antique window from the dining room were the only 2 unique things I was counting on?!  Hubby successfully removed the window so we are 50% there.  They'd better not break it getting it in.  It is a good thing that I get my hair colored with all this gray I'm sure this contractor is causing me!  I will never recommend him to anyone in the future nor are we going to use him again either.

See the picture directly below?  The contractor was supposed to install the right window (lightly) but put this homeguard stuff instead.  Hubby went out and secured it better with wood.  It is windy today with wind gusts up to 35 mph ! The reason for not putting this window in is so that they can haul all  the drywall through it and not through the house when it is time for that. We know how messy and dusty that can be.

Nothing

After being told by the contractor last Friday that things were really going to be happening this week, nothing was done yesterday.  Par for this project I suppose.

Today we are having a tree company out (who took care of our one tree last year) to remove any branches near the addition, take down one tree in the front that is dead, etc. I hope they get here soon.  I'm also hoping the roofing guys get the metal on the roof.  One thing is for sure, nobody ever starts early on our jobs.  It is 9:43AM.. and in my opinion have already lost close to 2 hours of good 'work' time.  < Sigh>

Addition Day 27

Here are today's pictures.  The roofers already started and have put the waterproofing and wrap on the roof, electrician was here as well as the plumber.

Addition Day 26.. a little of this and that

Not sure how much was done today but they did paint the trim on the addition.  A metal roofer was supposed to come by on Saturday but he never called nor showed up and neither did our contractor who told Steve he would let him know.  Hubby does not like to be tethered to the house all day for no good reason...and I don't blame him. 

Fast forward to today.  We contacted a roofing company that came out and did a minor repair for us a few years ago and is local, as in right here in town. He came out and we're just waiting for an estimate via email.  So that is who we are going to use if the quote is reasonable. 

I told my hubby that we should have considered just being our own General Contractor and just subbed the things out ourselves as we seem to get a lot better and faster results!  Who knows.. but anyway, here are today's photos.

They left early enough today for hubby to get pictures. So you're getting a treat with two photo blogs in one day :)

Addition Day 24 (again yesterday)

The guys have actually still been working when I go to mom's house to make her dinner, so the photos may start being from the day before now..

It is really starting to come together and look more like a true addition ~ finally!

Today we let Merlin go to heaven..it was a hard thing to do but the right thing...now he can join my father, Reebok, Misty, Shelby, Obi, and Kaci. It has been very strange today not having him around.
