What is as challenging as writing your name with your other hand?

Painting a wall with your other hand.   I went ahead and painted that area that used to be covered by the door that is now the door to the addition.  I used my right hand since my left hurts and I did okay.  I didn't paint the trim to the door yet as for that I need my good hand.  Here are the before and after pictures.

Addition Day 47

Impressed that the plumbing company (well one guy from it) and the contractor came out yesterday to work on the water to the addition.  This is probably because hubby was at the end of his rope.  He had wanted to install the laminate floor yesterday and that wasn't happening.

So yesterday the entire front yard all the way across had been dug up in at least one spot or another. At least they went underneath the front walk. That thing with the green cover is the pump that was necessary to make sure the flow of water is good to the addition.  There were a few issues getting the water to work  in the kitchen (clogged faucet line?) but it is all working now.

Unfortunately I pounded upwards with the lower palm of my hand on the shelf in the closet with the attic access as it was supposed to lift off easily but had been painted in or something and was very hard to get loose.  I must have sprained my wrist/hand or something because by the time I got to mom's it was a bit achy.   Today it hurts to even type this.  I was going to paint the door trim today but I didn't even exercise. Going to take some ibuprofen later with breakfast in the hopes that it helps.  It isn't swollen or noticeably different to the naked eye.  I should have just told the plumber to try to get the shelf off in hind sight. But I was just trying to help get it done as it was already close to 6 PM...on a Saturday.

Headed off to take a shower and take it easy the rest of the day.

Addition Day 46

Just when we think we're winding down...

The plumbers (FINALLY) came today to use that piece of machinery and dug up half the lawn, only to determine they cannot tie into that pipe that is there, they have to tie into a different pipe and go across the yard to the other side to do it.  UGH!!!  It just never ends!!  They are suppose to come back tomorrow to get the piping in and connect it to the house (addition).  How very frustrated we have been, hubby more so that I as he really gets a short temper when he is at the end of his patience!

I'm sure our sprinkler systems is shot too and the contractor is going to have to get it all fixed. We have not been able to run the sprinklers yet this year and it hasn't been too bad yet, but it is starting to get hot. If we were one of the folks who run their sprinklers every other day around here, we'd be livid by this point!

The plumber(s) did at least install the toilet, plumbing below the sinks and the contractor got the tile back splash up. Again we will put a shelf or something above the sink. I think the reason there is nothing above it is that if one were to use hot water the steam may rise and eventually start to warp any wooden cabinet above.  We'll deal with that.  Just glad that is done.

WE'LL HAVE TO GET ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT RAISES THE TOILET FOR MOM, MAYBE MOVE THE ONE FROM HER CURRENT TOILET IF IT WILL FIT.

Addition Day 45

No work done yesterday. No one came nor was scheduled to come. As much as I'd love to have this project be DONE, it was nice having one day that no one came to the door, getting the dogs all barking, and we were able to eat dinner without someone being here working still and walking back and forth around us (we have to eat early to be at my mom's by 6ish every night). And I didn't have to shut the powder room door to use the bathroom, etc. So it was fine by me!

The plumbers did NOT show up today - par for the way things have been going. But we DID get the granite put on mom's kitchenette area. It looks really nice!  The tile back splash area still is to be done but overall, very pleased the way it is turning out.   By the way there is NO cabinet going above the sink but we'll just put a cute shelf or two there.

Addition day 43 & 44

Between yesterday and today the electric has been completed in that all plugs are now connected and have socket covers. The Heating/AC unit is hooked up outside (there is a vent piece that goes on the inside wall), not sure how it works but mom will be able to have her room(s) at the temperature she wants separately from the rest of the house.

The shower door is installed, as well as the vanity and the fan/light has also been installed.  Thursday I think the granite for the kitchenette is going in, plumber is coming for toilet and sink hook ups and not sure what else but getting closer to the end!! The last thing will be the laminate flooring that hubby is going to install.  Hopefully less than a week to go?  The original dates that Steve and I had bet on have already passed.  I had bet on April 21st and he bet even earlier than that.

Addition Day 41 & 42

Yesterday and today the tile work for mom's bathroom got done.  He tiled it yesterday (not the contractor, just someone who strictly does tile). Today he grouted the tile.  Here's the finished photos :)    The shower door has to go in yet but the same tile is throughout the shower and the floor.  The round thing on the floor is where the toilet will be installed. The vanity will go to the right of that. It looks very nice we think!!

Addition Day 40

Plumber was here today to put the flange (sp?) in for the toilet in the bathroom.  The kitchen cabinets have been installed (we still need to get knobs for them) and the closet doors hung. The sink is going to go on top of the right cabinet and I think there is an upper cabinet missing but not sure. I'm going to ask. The corner sink was what I really wanted but had to forgo that due to the contractors #@#% up.

Also they cleaned up the windows as they had lots of marks and paint on them from all the construction.

Hubby also took an 'After' picture of the front of our house for comparison from 'Before'.  You can tell from the after photo that the large tree hanging over toward the center front is gone. It was mostly dead.

Addition day 39 Yesterday

Here are the pictures of the completely painted rooms.  It looks like bright white, but honest we picked an off white color.

So EXCITED!

I couldn't hold off blogging about this so I'm posting a short one now.  I first started my Invisalign braces journey if I may call it that in September 2015.  I finished my 28 sets of them by October, 2016. Then I was fitted for retainers which are actually more cumbersome that the Invisalign braces were in my opinion.

I just got off the phone with the Orthodontist office as I recalled when I got my retainers the tech told me I had to wear them pretty much 24/7 except when eating for 6 months and now that it is April it has been 6 months. I can now wear my retainers just at night!  WOO HOO!!  This is really exciting news to me.  No more brushing my teeth 10 times a day (or so it seems), taking them out when we go out to eat and making sure I don't lose them, taking them out when go see a movie, etc.,  I am THRILLED, CAN YOU TELL !! :)

Addition day 38ish

There has been something going on every day on the addition but it just isn't as noticeable as one would think (hope).  Here are a few pictures of the walls after being textured yesterday.  One photo is a close up so that you can see what the textured wall looks like.  Back East we didn't texture walls. I really like the look of texturing though and the rest of our house already had the texturing.  The only thing we are not having done like we have in the rest of the house is the popcorn ceilings.  I like what we have fine but would like the addition with a fresh look of no popcorn ceiling.

The walls are then scheduled to be painted on Tuesday (by someone we trust who has done other painting jobs for us). When that is done, the kitchen cabinets/floor and the bathroom should be completed next. Steve's putting the laminate floor in himself. I sure hope his back doesn't bother him.   I'm hoping we have less than 2 weeks to go for this addition to be finally done, but who knows.

Pics from 3 days ago

I meant to post these photos. Sorry been busy! :)

They actually finished texturing the walls yesterday but we didn't take pictures yet.  The minute I walked into the room I had to leave because it made my eyes sting.

So these are from still working on seams of drywall.

No addition work

No work on the addition was done today but I can still blog right?  I used to blog all the time with no construction photos.

Last night as I was stepping into the living room (it is one step down) from the dining room, my ankle gave out which used to happen A LOT when I was growing up, but hasn't happened in a while now.  When it gave out on me my foot turned and then I fell into the living room landing on my right knee cap.  Ouch!  I didn't know which hurt worse, my ankle or my knee.  But by the time we went to bed my knee won with the most ouches.  It did not swell much nor get purple so luckily my injury was not too severe.  It did bother me when I turned over in bed which I do quite often at night and it was not the most restful night to say the least.  This morning I skipped my exercise which I hate to do but it was a little tough coming down the stairs so there was my sign to take it easy.

I didn't walk on it any more than normal today and it really didn't hurt other than a tiny bit this morning. I may try walking tomorrow morning, just if it starts to bother me, I'll turn around. I may just take a shorter walk too.  I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I got some work done this morning and our taxes done today too.  I'm glad in a way that we closed the business last year so that next year's tax returns should be much easier.

I even got to record a few songs on Sing Snap so it turned out to be a very productive day!

Addition Day 37

Today's pictures. Yes they actually worked on a Saturday for the first time! It is looking pretty nice now. Not sure if they cleaned up the area because we treated them with lunch today, but it looks pretty nice and the drywall is all up.

Addition Day 36

Here are the end of the day pictures for yesterday.  We also took Molly for her annual visit on Thursday and the appointment went well. She is our oldest canine matriarch so far ever. She turned 12 on November 26th last year. She is scheduled to get her dental in July though as her teeth need it.  They aren't really bad since I brush all the dogs teeth, but hers were never as clean and white as Merlin's.  Interesting....I kept up with Merlin's teeth to help keep him healthy and he gets cancer anyway. He practically RAN to me when it was time to brush his teeth, he loved it that much!
I know it is not a cure all having clean teeth and gums..just really sucks!  Miss him !

YOU CAN SEE THE BOX FOR ONE OF THE CABINETS TO THE KITCHETTE

THIS IS WHERE THE BATHROOM WILL BE
