Update

This is going to be a short post because I am beat! Hubby was NOT any better as of yesterday morning. In fact he was worse and the rash had spread even more. So the night before last was not a great one for sleep for either of us.  Oh and last night I had to let one of the dogs out that barked (I wanted to go so that Steve didn't have to since he seemed to be sleeping at that time). But doing that wakes me up even moreso...and it was about 3:50AM. Ugh..

Fast forward. He went BACK to the dermatologist yesterday who even brought in a second doctor. They took two biopsies and had him get blood work done. No results of either of those yet. But they did prescribe him some meds including prednisone.

He started the Prednisone this morning and by mid afternoon, I'd say his rash improved by 50%!  He looked so much better!  I don't know if the biopsy and or blood work will result in any findings but I'm sure glad he is getting better. Sure hope it was just a fluke thing and that he doesn't have any other more major underlying medical issue.

I just got done with work and am going to go relax and maybe even will head to bed a bit early. Yes I'm that tired.

One Year Ago

It has been exactly one year since my dad passed away.  It was a bit sad when I thought about that today. It also made me realize though that for 365 days I have visited my mom to get her dinner.  That is a long time, but with hubby's help more times than he has needed to come, it has made it a lot more bearable.  I love my mom, don't get me wrong but it is tough to go day after day after day when sometimes you just don't want to go.  But I'll keep doing it as long as she needs.

Anyway enough about that.  Hubby has been having some skin issues and finally went to a dermatologist today.  It all started when he got a splinter in his foot.  It remained there for several days and he started feeling a bump where it was.  I took a look at it and sterilized a needle and poked at it.  I got what I thought was the splinter out but it still was a bit inflamed with a yellowish tinge to it.  Fast forward to last Wed/Thurs. He said it was still bothering him so we both thought about him soaking it in Epsom salts and then putting some drawing salve on it. We though perhaps there was still some splinter deeper down. The only salve he could find was called PRID.  Well over the weekend he started getting little red dots on his head that were getting really itchy and then burned.  They looked like they were spreading and by Saturday night we both thought about him stopping using the PRID. He only used it for 2- 3 days but it was enough to (the doctor believes he had an allergic reaction to it)  It was even starting to affect around his eyes and one of his hands (the palm has been really itchy).

I hope that this reaction is all that it is and nothing something else or something more serious. (The doctor asked him if he had diabetes or thyroid problems as these could be symptoms of that too. He is pretty sure he doesn't have either of those issues). To me this happened very rapidly to be something like diabetes or thyroid. He gave him some cream to put on his face once a day and told him to also take Benedryl for 5-7 days.  It is still itching him pretty badly but hopefully tomorrow it will start improving.  The problem with him putting this stuff on his face is that he sweats pretty easily so I'm not sure how much actually gets absorbed.  Anyway, sure hope it works.

It reminded me of a time when the oldest got poison oak right before we went to the shore for a weekend and she hid the fact that it was all over her legs for a day or so.  That was quite alarming I remember!  I think the pediatrician gave her a cortisone shot of some sort to help with that.   This doctor didn't indicate anything like that to help Steve.  He just said he thought it was some sort of allergic reaction to the PRID.

Oh he also looked at his foot and opened up the area that had gotten some hardened pus in it and took care of that. Apparently the splinter had caused an infection to form before I got the splinter out and then when I did it just closed up around that area that was still infected.  No more lump there now.  Things have to be really bad for him to do something medical about it so I'm glad he didn't delay another day.

Hope tomorrow brings him some relief.

Gelati dessert

Hubby got me these small Gelati desserts which I thought would be like the Rita's Ice Gelati from when we used to get them but they taste more like ice cream.  So I don't know.  They are good but not what I consider Gelati consistency. Okay I just solved my own mystery.  I looked at one of the containers again. It had Italian Gelato (NOT Gelati), so it is Italian style ice cream.  That makes much more sense.

Got my work done for the weekend so that is good.  I got myself set up for a relatively smooth day tomorrow. Now I can relax the rest of the evening - maybe even yes read a little. I am on the 4th book of that Fever series.  So more than doubling my reading goal of the year already when I done with this one.  Yippee.

As I was starting this blog I wondered where all the time goes every day and it dawned on me that I lose (or use) an hour and a half every evening by going over to moms to make her dinner and entertain her.  Then there are the Saturday mornings I help her and and bring her laundry home to do as well.
So that would explain it!

At least most of the things have been done that were needed in preparation for the future.  The major assets are in a Trust I had set up for mom including her house and my dad's probate I believe is almost done. They had to put an ad in the papers for 30 days or so. I think the final formality of probate being officially completed will be happening in the next few weeks. I should here from the attorney about that.

There was one major thing that we didn't give much thought until a few weeks ago.  My hubby has been taking mom to all her doctor appointments in the Camry which she is the most familiar and comfortable in.  The Camry was actually titled in dad's name only.  Mom doesn't have a driver's license in this state.  So all the times driving, hubby was basically not insured should anything happen and an insurance claim would have to be filed or worse yet a lawsuit.  We'd have been totally screwed!  But we resolved that issue by transferring the title to my name and added the car to our insurance.  Now hubby or I can drive it and be covered if need be. Dad always wanted my sister to have his car so when mom passes I will just gift it to her (blue book value is well under the maximum gift before getting into gift taxes).

That's it for now.  Bye.

Siamese Cherries

Today when I was eating my fruit at breakfast I came across this cherry that I nearly popped into my mouth before looking at.

It was two cherries with one stem.  Identical twins from the same er stem.  :)
Anyway I thought it was pretty cool. Sort of like finding a four leaf clover I think!

It is a full work weekend for me so this is going to be short.  I'll blog tomorrow though! G'Night !

Glad tomorrow is Friday

It sure has seemed like a long week.  Just got done working so I'm hitting the sack. Not much reading done today either.  Oh well.  Looking forward to tomorrow (being Friday). :)

Oh well

I didn't blog yesterday but there was nothing really new to write about anyway.  Same ol' same ol', working, reading, eating, reading, getting ready for bed, forcing myself to stop reading. Ha, ha.  I finished the 2nd book and am well into the 3rd book in a series the oldest got be hooked on.  Is life really that boring that I am stealing minutes to read?  Uh...I won't answer that.  I love my life, don't get me wrong and in general I don't ever read books.  I spend enough hours a day reading files in my work!  But I have to admit these are a good series of books. Enough to keep even busy me wanting to read more.

Today I had a half day off so that I could get my hair done.  I had rescheduled my Saturday appointment to help the youngest move.  My hairdresser gets booked up fast so when I rescheduled I went ahead and took mid week.  I have plenty of unused vacation so no big deal.  Usually when I have to sit for 45 minutes under the dryer while my color sets I just sit there and look around or keep my eyes closed. Today it was nice to have a book to read while I was there.  It made the time go so much faster!  And I got my great hair cut and color again.  Ready to tackle a busy Thursday!

Monday blog

Yesterday I worked a full day. Then I spent the rest of the time that I could steal to read more of my book (the second in the Fever series).  My poor eyes have been working extra hard. LOL.  I got hubby to get me a cucumber yesterday so that I could slice them and use them on my eyes.  I had read that they help sooth eyes and get the red out.  My eyes have been more bloodshot lately. I imagine it is due to mold in the air, it being very sunny these days since the rain streak has ended and possibly due to using them so much between the computer and reading the books my daughter got be hooked on now  LOL.

I applied sed the first two slices last night.  I think they were a little too cold at first because it hurt a little being on my eyelids. So I took them off for about 10 seconds and then replaced them while I sat back.  They actually did sooth my eyes and did help with the red eyes some as well.  I am going to use them again this evening before bed (new slices of course). Haven't really considered re-using them. The cucumber is pretty long so it will last for several days.

Today was back to regular work week time.  It was a fairly smooth day as it usually is when I get caught up over the weekend.  We have had the air conditioner on every day since it has been getting up in the 90's. It makes it nicer for the dogs and this way my office doesn't get horribly hot either.

I'm off to read a little more before stopping for the night.

Move

Today we were up and on the road by 8:30AM.  Hubby and I were going down to help the youngest move from her dark, dreary, old apartment to a nice new one down the road.  We also got to meet her new boyfriend.   He was very nice and really helped Steve with all the heavy furniture that was moved..okay they moved.  We made two trips and luckily she is getting rid of the heavy couch so that didn't have to be moved.  She still has some stuff to be moved but wasn't fully boxed up yet.  There isn't a ton left and she's got another week to get it all moved.

It really only took a few hours to get things moved so that was nice.  Her new apartment is very nice, light an airy and the whole complex is only a year or two old so everything is pretty new.  It is a gated complex too which is nice.

We had an early lunch ( for me late brunch because I didn't have breakfast) at around noon at IHop. Then hubby and I we were back on the road headed back home by 1:30PM.  There was a lot of traffic coming back and there was also a reckless driver that sideswiped a car in front of us (who thankfully was able to maintain control) and then the reckless driver took off. We had seen him not staying in the lines next to us for a while and he was either drunk or on drugs.  He was driving a run down car too.  He got off the highway and I was hoping the person he hit would catch him (as they went off the exit too).  Then further up the road the reckless driver was back ON the highway. I knew it was him because his left side had a white stripe of paint where he had scraped the car he had hit.  Hubby steered clear of him and just as I was asking if we shouldn't try calling the police, we didn't see his car anymore.  I just can't believe how bold people are around here and how many could care less about leaving the scene.  Then again he might not even legally be in this country.  :-(

I just relaxed after we got back and got some reading done of the 2nd book in the Fever series. I read a little yesterday as well and am already at page 136. These books are just that good!  Every time I thought I was at a spot that I could put it down, I couldn't. :0)

Tomorrow is a work day for me. I'm going to get the dogs out to go one last time and go watch some TV.

Merlin nut case

These pictures were taken yesterday.  I asked Merlin if he wanted to go outside and go potty. Granted I had the A/C on indoors all day ,but still.  He proceeded to plop down in the blazing sun with his full fur coat on!  :)   This was the temp I took right after taking the picture of him outside.
He only stayed out there about 20 minutes and I've been told that with Shelties long coats, it actually insulates them from the heat.  Guess so because otherwise I think he was a nut case! I am at lunch to blog and he is actually out there again laying out with a feels like temp of 97 degrees.

Yesterday ended up being a long day.  One reason was that I was having Internet connection problems on and off. So far today, it is working perfectly!  I know it is not me, it is the local cable company. So hopefully they have resolved whatever it was.  Then my mom had a skin doctor appointment that she thought was Wednesday but turns out was yesterday so I had to take her (hubby tends to the store on Thursdays).  That took longer than an hour so I had to make up the time and it put me behind some.  So anyway by the time I had enough for the day, I wasn't in much of a blogging mood.

I am sure glad it is Friday.  Pizza and beer night!!  And maybe I'll get a smidgen of reading in if my books come.

Hot

We have a temperature setting control for the shower. The only reason I am explaining this is because when I finished my walk this morning I was so hot that I turned the temperature down to 89 degrees for my shower.  To give you an idea I usually have it at 98 degrees, hubby has his as 103 degrees usually.  It was so refreshing to take a cool shower as I was really sweating!  LOL

Will write more tomorrow.  Oohhh my next 3 books in the series are to arrive tomorrow so that is something to really look forward to!

Didn't blog

Yes I know I didn't blog yesterday. But was not in the mood by night time.  Just a frustrating day at work but I will get over it.  Sometimes pride is hard to swallow when one takes so much interest in giving 200%.   That's all I can say about that.

I am writing at lunch so that this doesn't end up being a quick evening post.  I am waiting for my microwavable mac n' cheese to finish cooking for lunch.  I normally eat much healthier like salads but hubby had to remind me that we have these quick mac n' cheese things I can have for lunch sometime. So then I just had to have one today for lunch although I am going to have a small side salad.  Be right back...

I'm back with my mac' n cheese which turned out fine (and side salad)  I can't make mac' n cheese in the microwave though without remembering once the oldest tried to make it one time when she was young and forgot to add the water.  That was the first sign she wasn't naturally inclined to be a chef.  ;-)

I found out today I have my first downline Paparazzi Jewelry representative which is way cool and I didn't even actively recruit her.  She likely found my website and joined under me as she lives in TX too. I am going to send her a  welcome email later on this evening.  I really love the jewelry but just don't get time to promote it much. I do post some videos on Facebook as often as I can though and those are fun to do.  Here's the link if you care to check it out.

It has been pretty hot around here this week and the air conditioner has been put on way earlier than we usually put it on.  Usually we turn it on mid afternoon to cool the house down some but it has been getting in the 90's with sticky humidity so it was on by 11:00AM. Many folks around here leave their A/C on all the time but I really like fresh air as much as possible, although we are now getting bothersome gnats that keep flying in our faces.  This is probably from all the previous rain we had too and not having the house closed up all the time.  Oh well.  I'll take the gnats over those huge black water roach things anytime.  Luckily haven't seen one of them in the house in a while. Probably just jinxed myself!

Stuffed!

We ran my dad's car to the shop for inspection and were running late so didn't get dinner until after getting dinner for my mom.  I an proud of myself, this is the first time I ever cooked salmon (because I don't like it), but I made it for my mom with her cast iron skillet and I think it turned out perfect because she ate a lot of it.

Anyway we didn't get over to the Mexican restaurant nearby to eat then until after 7:30PM.  So needless to say I was starving by the time they brought us salsa and chips and ny first margarita. I ate my whole dinner!!  And top that off with a 2nd margarita and I'm feel overly full!  Ugh.  I rarely feel like this but hopefully I'll be fine.  LOL.  We've been home over an hour and I still feel uncomfortable.  Oye!

I finished that book last night and am looking forward to getting the next three.  Then I can read one right after the other without ordering and having to wait for the new book.

Forgot

I forgot to blog yesterday but then again it was a work weekend.  So I put in a full day of work and then also got some more reading in. And then the rest of the evening got away from me and I forgot.  Today was much like yesterday, as I got some work in and also some reading in.  I've got less than 50 pages to go in this book so I think I need to get the next one ordered.  Hmm... after this one I will have met my goal of reading two books this year with nearly half the year left! :)   I will most likely be reading the rest of this series since I enjoy it so much.  Thanks for the suggestion Dani! :)

Not really a whole lot else to write about.  I am sorry for all the lives who were cut short in Orlando early this morning.  :-(  It is a shame that it seems each tragedy is worse and worse.

Pretty soon I'll have to get my dad's car inspected as it is due this month and will have to look into the title/insurance situation.  It is going to be more like summer this week with temperatures in the 90's.  I'm going to run the sprinklers tonight for the first time this year.

Damage Done

I took some pictures just now of the damage that the tree we had taken down did, along with the last remains of the destructive tree.   :-)

So it did quite a number huh?

I am enjoying the book that my oldest picked for me. It is called Dark Fever, by Karen Marie Moning (who graduated from Purdue - the same college I  graduated from, and is the first book in a series.  I was skeptical of starting a series but figured if I don't like it I'll just read the one book. But I am hooked.  I don't have a lot of time to read but I am already on page 97. For me that is really good!  I was even reading while we were waiting for our pizza!  LOL.

Thursday Eve'

Not working tonight but I wanted to share what I had last night that got me through the rest of my evening yesterday.
Just the thing I needed. :-)

This morning we were to have someone come and give us an estimate for removing the big tree at the end of the driveway.  It has been bringing up the driveway as well as the curbing along the street next to the driveway.  It also has been dying, from I'm guessing oak wilt. It was already moving the sidewalk some when we moved in, but it had gotten to the point of making a noticeable bump when pulling into the driveway and make a wide gap in the curbing at the end of the driveway apron.  After nearly 11 years it was time to do something about this tree before the city notified us that it was starting to affect the street.

This company was not the same guy we used before who did a good job of removing 3 small trees in the back but I didn't feel comfortable with him tackling a huge tree that was probably near underground water lines and such.

So back to this morning. This man were suppose to come at 9:00AM and in typical fashion in these parts, it was 9:15AM and no show.  I told hubby we should call 6 tree removal companies and whomever showed up ON TIME pick from one of them or select them if there was only one.  It is unreal how no one respects time around here. Hubby had to get ready to go to the shop and I was already working (and still in my exercise attire so I wasn't about to answer the door).

A few minutes later the phone rang. The person said they were at our house but they were not. I called the number and left a message to just reschedule it. Long story short they were down the street.  I was not impressed at this point.  Our house number is clearly on the front curb, on our house and even on both sides of the driveway.  The guy apologized to hubby and anyway, I figured my hubby was going to tell him FORGET IT. But instead he came right back inside and said that they could do the job this afternoon and at a great price (from what I was guesstimating).  They already were working on a job down the street and could come back around 2:30 or so.  I was thinking yes, it will probably be close to 5:00PM.

They got here at 2:40PM and were done before 5:00PM. They worked as a well-oiled (machine) team, and effortlessly climbed the tree, removed limbs, cut up, placed in the truck.  There were I think 5 of them (Mexicans - whom really are some of the hardest workers I have seen).  They did a wonderful job and you wouldn't even know they were here as there was no debris left at all and they got the trunk cut down level to the ground.

Here's a before and after picture I took through the front door window.  You can see a guy climbing the tree in the first one.

Doesn't the after picture look spectacular? :)   Now we still need to get someone out to fix the driveway. There was a man who did a great job cementing a portion of the lower side of our hose a few years ago.  I'm going to see if I can locate his contact information.

Well I'm stopping here for the night.  After posting that picture of the ice cream I want some tonight too. This time I'm going to drizzle it with Kahlua too.  Yum...

Beat

I'm really tired today. Long work night last night and didn't sleep well, one of the dogs got sick.  So I'll write more tomorrow.  Too tired to blog much of anything.  OH except I DID get a book I ordered and started reading it while at my mom's eye doctor appointment today.  I'm really liking this one!!

Bird nest

I kept hearing some birds out the window today and stood up to look and see where the heck they were.  Here they were in our metal art against the fence.  Yes it has a bird house as part of it but I just figured it would never actually house any birds!  I thought if nothing else the metal would get too hot (hopefully it won't as it is going to start getting hotter with the lack of rain).

Short one

Don't feel like blogging tonight but just stopping by to say hey.  We had no rain today so that was very nice for a change.  Game of Silence is on so I'm going to go watch it.

Rain

When we got in the truck to leave from my moms after making her dinner (shrimp scampi tonight) yum...the windshield was wet.  It must have rained while we were there but I didn't notice it.  I was hoping to post that we had no rain so far today but we had some even if a short rain.

Right now the sky is clear though nearing the dark of night soon. It figures it would clear up right when it is time for sundown.

My oldest helped me pick out my next book to read.  I am reading book #1 of the Fever series. I just have to be patient for it to arrive.  Going to go relax for a bit.
