Down Time..

Well I cannot work as the system that I use has been down since last evening...

so I did finally play my guitar and sing (recorded) 4 songs on this neat little device I bought that I can record and send songs via email that my girls can download onto their MP3 players.

I also got a few bills taken care of and added a new dish to my other blog (without pictures though as my hub had deleted them off the camera by mistake).

We are thinking again about another sheltie and offered to foster one for the local rescue we've been involved with for years so that we could see if it was a good fit before jumping the gun. They however don't like what happened the last time. We gave up the last one because she was not a good fit (very aggressive toward 2 of our other dogs and they started avoiding her like the plague)...one staying in her kennel a lot of the time and the other just not being his normal self (always on guard) and not hanging out on the back porch like he used to because she would come snap at him. We kept her for close to two months trying to see if things would get better, but they did not and she didn't start out right off the bat being aggressive...it took her a few weeks to be comfortable in her surroundings I guess and let herself be herself. Anyway we DID foster her until there was a new home for her, and did not make anyone take her that day. We fostered her close to 2 more weeks before getting her a great home (with no other dogs which is what she needed in my opinion).

We had adopted her after only having her a few days, but felt under pressure to do so as we only had her for 2 days when we got an email that someone else wanted to look at her to possibly adopt. Had we known that we could have said we wanted to keep her a while longer to see if we wanted to adopt, I would have done that but felt instead pressured to adopt her so that we would not lose her. So we went ahead and paid the $300 adoption fee and took a chance. It is unfortunate that they cannot understand our side of the picture and the fact that we also were out that $300, which I did not complain about at all.  Will just continue my search without being involved with that group any longer. Sad for all in my opinion.  And it really bothers me alot. But I will get over it.

Well guess I will see whether I can get to work finally....

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day dad!   I am so proud to be your daughter and so happy that you are very much alive and vibrant at 86 years young.

This photo captures fond memories of playing with Cocoa in the living room. I would guess this picture is from sometime in the mid 70's.  Here's to you !!

'nough said..

Two days ago I decided I was going to go see the little birds before they left the nest.  I grabbed the camera, went outside and guess what?...they already left the nest.

Oh well.  I just had to post a picture of it here since that is the theme of this entire blog...'nough said.

Kind of makes me want to remind everyone who still has kids at home to love them and spend time with them while they are still there in your nest.  I still to this day wish I didn't have to work so much when my girls were growing up....it was what it was though and they know I love them very much!   My youngest still has another year of college to go. She just needs to come visit more often!   They both do actually...but I'll try not to whine.

Holding off..

I did not plant anything new today as I don't think anything will grow very well in this Texas heat.  It may get up to 100 this week too.  I may try some more green beans but I don't know. I didn't really get any from the beans I planted out back, although there are still some vines, just not getting any beans from them. I think it is getting too hot.

I really want to try to garden over the winter as I think I will have more luck. I don't think we had any hard freezes last winter, maybe a few, but I think I'll have more luck with growing things before they burn up from it being too hot.

I still have my fingers crossed that I may get a few zucchini and I do have at least one green pepper that will make it.

Hub and I saw Snow White today.  We haven't seen a movie together in a long time.  It was pretty good.  Loved the special effects.  I am really looking forward to the last Twilight movie although it will not be out until November.  They really drag these movies out don't they?!  It didn't help that there were 3 different posters at the theater, one with Bella, one with Edward and one with Jacob.

Got some work done this weekend too, so all around was a good weekend. Got to work and got to play. :-)

It's Friday :)

..and I stopped work today at dinnertime for once!  :-)

It was a long week and I couldn't wait to relax, sit back and blog a little.

Guess what?!  The bird eggs that were in that nest next to my zucchini plant have hatched!  My hubby and I both noticed that the mamma (I'm assuming) has been popping in and out of the planter carrying food in her mouth, then going out for more. I still can't SEE anything through the window that is right next to it, but I don't want to disturb it too much either.  I am so excited that my watering of the zucchini has not made them abandon their nest.  I didn't water it at all today but it did get up to the 90s I think, and I will have to water it tomorrow.  I'll just be careful and water like I have been, at the opposite side of the planter.

This picture I cannot take credit for. Hubby saw this really weird bug on the screen door that had a very long, um..antenna?  leg?  I have no clue what it is..but it is a long appendage! I guess now that I look at it, there are two.

There are some really strange bugs in Texas, that's all I can say.

I can't believe it is June already!  We have been lucky this year so far as it hasn't hit 100 yet. Last year at this time we already had several 100 degree days.  I think I will make a point of planting some more seeds before the end of the weekend (after I find out which can grow here in the heat).

It doesn't get any better than this..

So I can say this week I did NOT have an empty nest!  At least for a few days..the chicks came back to the roost!  My oldest drove all the way from PA with her boyfriend and got here Memorial Day. My youngest came home the same day earlier in the afternoon.

My oldest brought me some Yuengling Lager...and with everyone home for a few days..it was wonderful...and I had one of those "it doesn't get any better than this" moments!  It has been at least 6 years since my lips have touched the top of a Yuengling! They do not sell it here, wish they would but at least I can savor these while they last. This has been my favorite beer ever since discovered it back in PA. It is made at the oldest American Brewery...see?  since 1829!

Anyway back to the visit. I made sure the girls made an appearance at the grandparents and also their aunt's house. We had a very nice dinner at our favorite restaurant Saltgrass and I got to know my oldest's boyfriend a little bit. He was someone she has liked since high school and I have never seen her happier!

When I was showing my youngest the balcony garden, we saw one of the birds that belong to the nest in the zucchini plant. It was in a nearby tree, complaining about us being near its nest. So we went inside and watched from the window as it came closer and eventually hopped into the planter and checked on its nest, then took off. That gave me hope that the nest is still okay and that the eggs will hatch. Its been a little over 2 weeks as best I can tell, so if they are going to hatch it should be within the next week I would think.

Everyone is back home safe and sound now, thankfully.  It was great to see them and have both kids here at the same time! That is a rare thing these days and will be a memory that I will hold close to my heart forever!
