Drought no more

Hubby told me today that her heard our city is officially out of a drought as of right now anyway. That is great news as over the last three or so years Texas and in our area at least there has been more drought status than not.  It is raining right now in fact.  It would be nice if we can stay drought free for a while!  I just hope folks don't go nuts with the lawn watering once it gets warmer.  It is such a waste to water lawns, especially ones that are already plush green.

My niece had her baby boy yesterday around 4:00PM He weighs a little over 7 lbs. So glad it all went well. Glad that my niece didn't have to go through what I went through 27 years ago.

So tomorrow is the Super Bowl. Who is watching for their team?  Who is watching for the touchdowns? Who is watching for the commercials? ME!!  That is really the reason I watch it ever.  It is the only football game I watch.

I forgot I had a hair appointment today and the hair dresser called me. Well I thought I hadn't scheduled any hair cut and I thought she'd call me to remind me anyway which I guess I shouldn't have relied on.  But  I couldn't drop everything and go this morning as two of the dogs had their vet appointment.  Oh well. I rescheduled it for next month.

The good news is that Tika's lump is just a fatty mass.  Nothing to be concerned about and not cancer. The vet said she may get more as she gets older but hey that is ok. I'm just glad it is nothing serious.  The one she has right now is on her stomach so it is not noticeable at all.

Well I'll see if I can stay awake through at least some of Saturday Night Live.

Anticipation..

My niece went to the hospital this morning to have her first baby. My brother is going to let us know.  Hopefully it won't be one of those 20 something hour labors, or worse yet be told oh, your contractions stopped you can go home sort of thing.

The thought about having babies brings me back to my experience with my first born. I was due somewhere around January 8th.  I had an ultrasound done when I was a week late and the doctors told me the baby could be upwards of 11 pounds.

I never dialated past 2 cms and they even striped the membrane at one visit after that. Still nothing.  What floored me was how the doctors waited until I was 3 weeks LATE and then were going to induce labor. Seriously?  You tell me this baby may be big enough that it can practically walk out of me, and you want to wait??   In hind sight I should have insisted much earlier to do something about it.

The morning I went in to be induced it was January 29th, a full 21 days late!  I was really getting concerned that maybe there was a good reason I did not go into labor.  I am not a big boned woman and I was worrying that the baby would either get stuck trying to come out or break her shoulder or something.  I asked them to PLEASE perform a C-Section and they finally agreed.

Thank God!  She was a perfect 10 lb, 8 oz baby and I was so happy I didn't try the 'normal' delivery route.  When we were leaving the hospital a few days later a woman asked me if she was three or four months old.  I smiled and said 3 days.

That little baby is now 27 years old as of yesterday and a beautiful young woman.

When it was time to have my second baby, I just opted for a C-Section. It was less chance of complications and no this time did not wait until 3 weeks past my due date!  And she wasn't 10 pounds either.

So if and when my girls ever have children of their own, I won't be able to share any 'labor' stories with them. But I'm okay with that. :)

Companions at all times

If you have any dogs then you'll understand this picture.  My dogs are guarding the bathroom for me while I'm on the potty. I'm in there to the right (behind the wall). So they are making sure no one comes in or goes out. LOL!   I always have at least one of them in the bathroom with me at any given time.  The little one there even wants to play while I'm 'busy'.  She'll play bite at my hand and growl and stuff.  Oye :)   Never a dull moment for sure!!

Tika, the one laying down is one of the ones I'm taking to the vet this weekend. Hope her lump is 'nothing'!

Well I'm tired, another long day.  Hitting the sack!

Aw..mom...!

ZZZzzzzzz...

"Ditzy..it is time to go in your kennel"...

"Aw...huh....what?...."

"What did you say? I was sleeping!"..

"Aw...mom I don't want to go there. I'm nice and comfy here."

 "No!"....ZZZZZZZzzzzzz

4th Monday

It is only the 4th Monday of the new year. Oye!

Anyway, tonight while we were eating dinner hubby got me laughing so hard my stomach hurt!  One of the doors to the porch that is in the dining room had been opened all day but suddenly slammed shut.  He happened to be looking at Tika when that happened and he said her rear end went up in the air (like a cat that gets scared but only her butt went up in the air).  I could just picture it. She is the skittish of all our dogs as it is but just thinking her of thinking MEOW!!! and jumping so her entire rear end was up off the floor for a second got me into a giggling frenzy. I haven't had a good laugh like that in a while.

While crippling snow storms are hitting the east coast, we got up into the mid 70's today with nice blue skies. I even took my walk without even a sweater, although I didn't wear shorts like I saw a few guys wearing.  Some folks especially men and boys wear shorts all winter long in Texas.  That is nuts to me!  We've had plenty of days in the 30's and 40's. It just is not warm/hot all year long here.  Maybe it used to be, not sure but anyway it was pleasant for me to walk with my jeans and long sleeved top on.

Going to end this for the evening. Hope anyone on the east coast that may be reading this stays safe and warm!

Sunny not soppy

No rain today. It was sunny and nice outside today.  Of course I worked so I didn't really do anything outdoors but I still love even just looking out the window and seeing the sunlight.

I am missing the Miss Universe pageant. I did not push it with hubby who would agree to watch it if I really wanted to.  But it isn't as much fun anyway as when I used to watch it when the girls were younger.  We used to love giving our opinion of this gown or that and who we each thought would win. Now that they are grown up, it isn't quite the same.

I like to watch Revenge anyway, which just started so I;ll just have to find out later or tomorrow who won Miss Universe. I also have a fur kid on my lap too, so I'm typing with one finger. I am going to end this here then.

Saturday's Scarf, I did it!

Here it is. The end of my Scarf week challenge.  Can you tell this year my buzzword is going to be challenge? :-)  This is a scarf I've had for over 10 years. It is much skinnier than the current ones I have but it has great silver threading throughout.

Well after working 22 days straight I am not working today. It feels wonderful knowing I can do whatever I want today or I can do nothing at all. I got some laundry going so that I know of for sure.  It is suppose to hit 60 outside today and be sunny so it will be nice to get out.

And to my girls, a close up for earrings shot. I actually have BOTH holes filled with earrings. :-)  I thought one or more of my holes closed up but I tried putting them in both holes in each ear right after a shower the other day and got them in. The posts I kept in since then as those were harder holes to get them in. But I was happy to know I can still wear double earrings.

Socks don't stick!

Have to blog this morning before work because of something funny that happened. Well it was funny to me, not to hubby.  When I was coming down stairs this morning hubby said to turn on the living room light with urgency in his voice.  As I did I saw that he had stepped into some poop left there by most likely Merlin last night.  He thought it was a sock but pulled at it, took another step and it was still stuck. I am not sure why the first pull wasn't his clue.

So I gave him a wet paper towel and tried to hold in my laughter while I cleaned it up. He would have cleaned it up but he'd be retching the whole time (trying not to throw up himself). He is wimpy that way. LOL

We weren't mad at Merlin as it has been really raining yesterday and he probably didn't really HAVE to go until sometime in the middle of the night.  ;-)

This is today's scarf picture too. I wore my other string scarf which I really like. Hmm...I may have to get a few more. But not until after Jan 31st! Got to stick to my pledge!

Stopped raining

It finally stopped raining this evening, but we really needed the rain so I'm not going to complain. Besides it was not my walk day today anyway.  Tomorrow is but it should be dry by the time I go walk after work.

I may not have to work a lot this weekend which would be nice to get some time off.  We may even see another movie.

I did make a vet appointment for Tika to get the lump on her chest looked at. She did stop getting sick last night and was hungry for breakfast this morning so she must have just eaten something bad.   The appointment isn't until the 31st but she does seem fine. I'm just hoping the lump is just a fatty benign lump.

I'm going to catch the rest of Elementary and sit with hubby for a bit. Nite!

Thursday's Threads

Just took my lunch break and got my shower (finally).  Here is today's picture. It is pouring down rain and in the 40's outside so thought I'd have a little fun with my pom pom scarf. :)

Wednesday's Wear

Here is today's scarf selection.  It is only going to get to the mid 50's today so I'm wearing one of my 'string' scarves with a thicker sweater.  Sorry no smile. I got up early to get a head start and am still half asleep here. :0)

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Tika has been getting sick several times this evening. We went through practically a whole roll of paper towels already. I don't know what she ate or licked. She is a chronic licker! Luckily she is sleeping now and hasn't gotten sick for 30 minutes now. She has a lump on her chest that is squishy but hasn't been bothering her and doesn't seem to be getting any bigger.  Hopefully that isn't the cause of her getting sick. Will be making an appointment for her to get checked out and also Molly needs her shots so will get appointment for her too soon. I hope the throwing up will be over and done with tonight.

Tomorrow is a dentist appointment for me during my lunch so that will be fun (not)!  I think I'll start my work day a little earlier as it will take at least an hour including getting there and back.  I'm so conscientious aren't I?

It was perfect outside today so I'll not complain about the next couple days when it suppose to get cold again. Well I'll try not to complain. :-)

Tueday Scarf

Real quick here is today's scarf.  Since it may get up to 75 today, don't be jealous ;=-), I decided to wear a scarf that I wrapped around itself several time so that it is more like a fancy necklace type of thing as I doubt I want a hot scarf around my neck later on today. It is one of my favorites and one of the most colorful ones I own. Toodles!

Two in one day

I decided to go ahead and blog a second time today!  Don't get excited, it won't happen very often.  I took my walk today after work and it was gorgeous out. Blue skies with a smattering of cloud streaks and 70 degrees out.  I thanked God for giving me a taste of what is to come. I really love warm weather ,what can I say?  That's one reason for moving 1600+ miles away after all.

I ended my work day happy that I am caught up.  That is rare but I am happy about it. It will make tomorrow so much less stressful.

Wednesday I have a dentist appointment during lunch to get a tooth fixed that has been catching food and bugging the hell out of me.  I will be happy to get it taken care of.  No more making my tongue work overtime trying to free whatever food has gotten caught there until I finally give up and get the floss.

We are watching Street Outlaws on TV. There isn't much else on.  It is street car racing or some such thing. I'm happy to let hubby watch what he wants while I blog, check emails and get on Facebook.  I think I'll window shop on Etsy.com too.  I won't give in, don't worry.

Merlin's Ritual

I'm going to see if this will post.
Every morning Merlin after eating will drink some water and literally groom his mane. LOL

Tried to catch him this morning but I think I distracted him. He usually goes four or five
rounds on cleaning himself.

And here is my scarf for the day. It is just one scarf but really pretty!  If anything exciting to write about will write later. Just did this first thing before work.

Day One: Diane's wear scarf week

Today I didn't get my shower until 2:00PM because I was yes working and today was work out day so I was in my exercise garb until that time when I took a break for lunch (my shower).  Anyway I remembered my pledge so here is Sunday's Scarf  Day Photo.

Another nice day outside. Think it got up to close to 70 degrees. Hubby has a friend over right now. So I am starting to watch the movie Bridesmaids.  It is a fun movie.  I'm sure I'll end up changing the station once his friend leaves and he realizes what I'm watching. That's okay I've seen it before. :-)  There just isn't much on TV right now. Later...

Date Day

Went to see Taken 3 with hubby today and it was really good!  Sometimes sequels are rather flat but we both really liked it. Of course I had my bag of popcorn and water - you thought I was going to say soda right? Nope. I really have not drunk soda in well now that it is 2015 probably at least 3 years.  Anyway, it was good to go out and see a movie with him.  The theater for that movie anyway was not crowded at all. So with only a few people in there we were able to add our comments now and then to something we saw.  Nobody was sitting right near us. I think there were may be 20 people in the theater for that show.  There were plenty more people there to watch other movies like American Sniper and Night at the Museum. There was a bit of a line outside waiting to get our tickets but once inside the snack line was only a few people in each line.

It was nice out today too. I'm not sure how high it got outside, maybe 70 and sunny!  Woo hoo!  I have felt sort of cold all day though. I think the house tends to keep the cool in, or maybe my brain thinks it is still 30 something outside. Who knows.

Friday..Friday..it's finally Friday

Had my pizza and beer (thanks to Dan in PA for bringing the Yuenling).. ahh..let the weekend begin:

I quit at regular time today and got a walk in and it was nice out!  It was sunny and in the low 60's so that was nice for once!  Enjoyed this pizza and beer and now just settling in to watch some TV.  There is a new GRIMM on tonight. I like that show alot.  Got a little singing in at lunchtime too today.  Life is good!

First Sunny Day

...in what seems like months!  It was so nice seeing the clear blue sky and sunshine today!  I didn't really enjoy it very much since I was working but every time I glanced outside it was pretty and lifted my spirits.

And tomorrow is Friday. YAH!  I managed to get a few songs in at lunch time today which was fun. That 30 minutes goes so darn fast and it takes a little time to find a song I want to sing and then record, playback, accept or reject.  See how fast 30 minutes can go by?  I could easily take an hour for lunch but then I'd be working even longer so I'm not interested in that.

Tomorrow it may get up to 62 degrees, so I'm definitely taking my walk tomorrow after work tomorrow. Not much else new.

Hump Day

Happy Hump Day!

Well another dreary, gray day today in the 30's and no I didn't walk like I should have but that is because it was also raining! I drew the line when I saw the rain.  On the upside it is suppose to be much better by Friday (when it is my next walk day). It may even be in the 60's!  Woo hoo!

I decided I'm making next week National Wear Scarf week.  Okay just Diane's Wear A Scarf week.  I've been wearing a scarf the last couple days and thought it would be fun to wear on every work day next week. If it is frigid out I'll wear warmer ones, if warmer will wear light weight ones. I'll post a pic of what I've worn every day (most likely just an upper torso shot as I don't want to put make up on and I'm UGLY without it). Besides the emphasis is on the fun scarf selection wearing and not my face!

I didn't get a chance to do any singing tonight, but maybe tomorrow when I'm on my lunch break.

And so far nope haven't done any shopping for new clothes or stuff. :-)  Almost halfway through the month!

Terrible Tuesday

Long day again. I am not in a good mood but I'll be fine.
I have to de-stress and sing more. Right! :)

Cold, gray and dreary day again today.  I'm tired and like I said its been a long day.
So this is one of those times I am not writing a significant blog post.  Sorry.

Nite

I don't mean to complain

....but since this is my blog and I can write whatever I want to write about, I will!  I am sick of the gray days!  I think in the last 30 days we had maybe 5-6 days of sunshine.  I know we haven't been hit with wind chills below zero or tons of snow but I really miss the sunshine.  It affects my mood when it is so gray out. Is it gray or grey?  Hmm...I guess either one works.  They are both blechy colors!!

I did get a walk in after work even though it was cold and gray out. I hadn't walked since last Wednesday.  It was pretty cold and rainy on Friday which is why I didn't walk then and this weekend was crappy too.

Anyway, Spring is only a few months away right?

Let me think of some positive things to say. Ummm.....

The days are getting longer (more daylight). That is a good thing!
I have until April 15th to file taxes, so I can ignore the stupid H&R Block commercials. That is a good thing!
Next Monday is a holiday!  That is a good thing!
The Superbowl is less than 3 weeks away (I watch it for the commercials). That is a good thing!

There! Nothing like ending on a positive note!

Deleting emails

I was deleting the enticing 'SALES' emails today and came across an email from the Greater Good website.  You know the one that has a CLICK here button and it will help feed an animal.  I decided I want to try to do that every day too. Who knows if it really helps but anyway, there are so many other causes listed there now. I think I counted 10!  Sure hope it does do some actual good.  I don't know if they are just banking on some folks 'shopping' at these sites while they are there to CLICK Here and that is how money is raised.  Who knows.  And no I didn't shop at any of them! :-)

Well, my hubby shaved off his beard and once again I did NOT notice. He had to say something to me a few minutes ago about it! UGH!!  I swore last year when he shaved his beard off that I would notice!  In my defense I did work today so I was in the office for 8+ hours.  That is really not a good excuse though. He doesn't grow a real long beard and when he shaves it, he never shaves his mustache but yah...now I'm making excuses as to why I didn't notice.  Oh well. It is what it is.

Saturday bloggin'

Held off blogging until Ditzy got down off my lap.  Here's a selfie of her when she was on my lap.
See?  Would you kick a dog off your lap if she looked like this?  Didn't think so.

We were under a winter storm warning from last night until this evening.  Turned out to be a little warmer that they expected, and we didn't get any ice here, which is absolutely okay with me. It is just that they are so dramatic about the possible ice. The local television stations just want to scare everyone I guess.  It was suppose to be until midnight tonight (the weather advisory) but was called off by 4:00PM.

Went to see my mom today. She is now 88 years old. Since I'm working this weekend too, I cheated and just bought a red velvet cake at the grocery, got some pretty yellow flowers and a card to give her too. She really enjoyed it. Hubby went with me also and between us and my dad, we managed to sing a decent Happy Birthday with a little harmony!

Friday, January 9, 2015

Finally Friday!

Howdy!  It is finally Friday and I actually stopped work at a decent time today!  Then it was traditional pizza and beer night, with Yuengling beer that hubby's friend brought from PA. Yum!

I am not sure that I shared on here yet but last July I joined a wonderful online kareoke group called www.singsnap.com.  It is for people who love to sing but don't have time to pursue being in a singing group (like I would love to).  It is spontaneous singing whenever I want.  A gal who is in the Paphaven rescue group turned me on to it.

I try to sing on it whenever I can. It is really fun.  I even recorded some songs today.  Here are a few of my favorites (mostly duets) as I love to sing harmony. The first one was a solo that i did today. My singsnap name is SweetDee57 if you care to check out any others.

Thai Thursday

Okay I know I said I wasn't going to shop and get myself anything. But that doesn't include life sustaining things such as food does it? : -)  I got Thai for dinner. That is my reward for working so hard all week.  I haven't had it since before Christmas so I deserve it.  Besides my shopping challenge is for things like clothes that I don't need.  I am not counting food.

We are making plans to perhaps see the new Taken 3 movie this weekend. I really liked the first two and like to see that sort of action film on the Big Screen with a bag of popcorn on my lap.  That is if it isn't too icy outside.  There is a winter storm warning for some freezing precipitation this weekend, but it may turn out to be nothing. I will just have to wait and see.  It is still only Thursday, still a few days for accu-weather to get more accurate right?  If it is bad we'll just go next weekend.

My mom turns 88 on Saturday. Dad turns 89 in March. I'm so lucky to have them still around and in pretty good health for their ages. Makes me think that I may have a chance to enjoy life for a while when I'm older as opposed to working until I pass away.  I know gruesome thought but some days it seems like I'm in that movie 'Groundhog Day', every day is the same routine mostly work.  I'll shut up and just be happy that I have a job I can do at home. Signing off to watch Elementary.

Windy Wednesday

Today the forecast was for high in the low 40's with winds gusting up to 45MPH from noon until 6:00PM. So what do I do?  I go for my walk anyway after work (well before dinner and back to work). It wasn't too bad on the way down but the walk back was met with pretty nasty cold wind. I just checked weather.com and the feels like temperature is 33 degrees.  Thought it felt colder than that myself, but perhaps my blood has thinned quite a bit after living in Texas for 9 1/2 years. I just got back a few minutes ago and my cheeks are still thawing.

Hubby is making BL(no T) sandwiches and tomato soup for dinner. YUM! That ought to warm me up. I don't like raw tomatoes and besides I am allergic to them slightly anyway. On a scale of 1 - ?, 1 being no reaction, I was a 3 when I was a kid. Not sure if would still show allergic to them now but I still eat everything made with or from tomatoes. Now my ears are hurting a little. I did wear a hat but it wasn't quite enough protection I guess.

I was looking at my email this morning.  Ever notice how there are ALWAYS these emails with special SALES?!  First there is pre-holiday sales, then New Year's sales, then half off sales, you get the picture.  I find myself looking at things for sale and thinking about buying some things.  I think I am a closet shopaholic. Well I don't know about that, I just cannot label myself a shopaholic because my house isn't filled with 'stuff' and my debt level is not out of hand. But it is very hard NOT to buy something when it is 50% off, or Buy two get one free.  I had several things 'bookmarked' to come back to and get but do I REALLY need any of them?  NO!  I have plenty of clothes and 'stuff' that I don't need anything at least not right now.  So I sort of have a second challenge (other than daily blogging).  I challenge myself not to buy anything that I don't need the entire month of January.  So far so good. This also means I better not go to my favorite shop in town where I always find something I want either!  I also have to stay away from the cast iron groups I'm in so I won't be tempted to buy another treasured cast iron piece. See I'm even enticing myself with just the wording?!

At some point maybe the beginning of February I will let myself get one thing I really, really want that is no more than $50, but we'll see. Maybe I'll just see how long I can keep it up.

The hardest part will be the email temptations...no more looking at this sale or that sale no matter how tempting the subject line is. DELETE  :-)

Short one

Not sure if anyone else enters sweepstakes but sometimes there are ones I find worth playing like the Dream Home on HGTV. I enter that sweepstakes every year.  The homes are gorgeous but I wouldn't be able to afford to pay all the taxes on the windfall profit so when I win (being optimistic) I will take the money option.  Then I can pay off my mortgage! Ha!  You can enter 2 times per day and you bet I haven't missed a day yet.

Today was a tease from Mother Nature. It got up to 68 degrees, only to plummet again the next few days. It is already down in the low 40s.  Oh well it was nice walking to my mom's in sunshine and relative warmth (the breeze was rather cool).

Worked another long day today so going to keep this short so I can watch a little Person of Interest before headed to bed.

Sundae Monday

Today is sundae Monday.  I just had a yummy sundae, with chopped almonds, chocolate syrup, and maraschino cherries. But now I am cold and so I'm sitting here with with a blanket and a warm puppy on my lap. Well she is not a puppy but she's small like a puppy. I am typing with one hand too because she always has to lay her head on my arm. If I pull it up, she paws at it until I drop it down again. Yes, all our dogs are spoiled.

It was sunny when I took my walk today, so I am grateful for that much. We are in my least favorite season. At least I don't have to deal with snow, at least not so far. If these Arctic fronts keep dipping ever southward, there may come a time when I do have to deal with that. Sure hope that time never comes.

I'm getting tired of typing with one finger so this is it for tonight.

Long week ahead

This next week is going to seem so long!  First of all it is the first week in 4 weeks that I have to work 5 days in a row. From vacation days and holidays, I've had a break from the Monday-Friday working. And secondly I just worked all weekend too so, it will be more like 7 days in a row now.  But that's okay. Good thing I like what I do.

No stray dogs today to rescue, so it was a quiet day at our house, well relatively.  The dogs are always barking at something at some point or another during the day.  Never a dull moment for very long around here.  Last night I was going to watch SNL but there was a football game finishing up and I fell asleep in the post game stuff and never saw any of it.  Oh well. I'm sure my brain needed the rest.

Guess there is nothing good on TV tonight. Hubby is channel surfing a lot!  That's what I get for handing him the tv controls and saying I'll be busy blogging and checking emails.

I got a bit creative tonight in the kitchen.  We were having some turkey (chunk of small sliced turkey in the crock pot) and I wanted to use some more of the purple cabbage I had. So I cut up some of that, and also saw I had an onion, so cut that up, still had some garlic cloves so used some of those clove chunks and got out some bacon grease that I had stored in the fridge. Got a slab of bacon grease out and plunked it into my heating cast iron skillet. Then in went the garlic cloves and then the onion and cabbage. Then I remembered I have some chopped almonds left over from buying a bag for some almond cookies I made for the holidays; So I added a handful of those to my stir fry mix.  It turned out good!  I even have some left overs for tomorrow.

Well I am off to check emails and relax for a little bit before turning in.

Hello Sun! Finally

Today the sun finally was out and it did get to the low 60's which was nice while it lasted.  I spent most of the day in doors but it was still nice looking out of my office window and seeing the blue skies and the sunshine.

I felt good about something I did today!  I reunited a lost dog with its owner.  It was mid afternoon and I saw something out back by the fence. It wasn't the normal deer that I usually see out there. I got up to get a better look and saw a dog I hadn't seen before pacing up and down the opposite side of the fence.  I let the dogs out as they were going ballistic and of course they all raced down to where that dog was.  It didn't run away despite all their barking so I decided to go outside and investigate. It was a dark brown/blackish border collie mix type of dog. As I approached it looked up at me and wagged his tail. I saw something shimmering around his neck and he had a tag with a phone number on it. I tried to memorize it and ran in to the phone and yep, called the wrong number. I kept repeating the number so I thought "I got this".That lady had no dog and so I took the phone outside with me and down to the fence I walked again.

I reached down through the wire fence and petted him a little and held his tag so I could see the number and dial it while I was reading it.  I got through to a lady who was grateful that I called. Her hubby came within 5 minutes (and I petted him while waiting so he wouldn't go away).  They were watching a few other dogs besides theirs and this dog had gotten out somehow.  I thought it was nice that he felt he owed me an explanation as to how his dog got out.  I didn't really care about that, I'm just glad I reunited them. His dog hopped right into his car, in the front seat too (even though the man had opened the back car door to let him in). Smart dog!

That was the highlight of my day.  I didn't get over to the farmers market like I wanted to but I just didn't want to stop my work mojo, so I let it go.  I'm still eating some purple cabbage I got a few weeks ago anyway so I'm not totally out of fresh veggies.

Wonder if there is a new SNL on tonight.  Later...

Yucky weather!

It has been dreary, wet and very cold the last several days which may sound very normal for winter but not really in Central Texas.  I already skipped my walk two days ago due to it being in the 30's so I was determined to walk today after work.  It was drizzly and according to weather.com' feels like' temperature was 34.  My fingers were feeling pretty frozen because I didn't bother finding gloves to wear.

I did not take any of the dogs with me though as I didn't want the walk to be drawn out even longer with a sniff and pee stop at every other mailbox or yard. I am glad I got through it but it was rough!  Thankfully I was talking to a girlfriend on my cell phone for much of it which helped take my mind off the cold a tad.  Pizza's here...will continue later.

Dang!  Ordered the hand tossed instead of the pan. Oh well. It really does not taste as good as the pan pizza. I was busy comparing getting two pizzas with the coupon deal vs one and it wasn't that much lower to just get one and split the toppings.  I'll pay more attention next time as I thought I DID order the pan pizzas.

Yesterday we started watching the last season of 24 only to find that I think we've already seen most of this season on regular TV. Oh well. We'll still watch it all the way through as I'm not sure we saw every episode.

The weekend is here again. Next week will be really hard to work five days in a row!

Hello 2015!

Well I made it until midnight with no nap either. It really isn't quite the same without Dick Clark, but we muddled through with Carson Daly. I must be out of the Hollywood/TV loop as I had no clue who the other 3 people were that were sitting with him.

So this is the time of year for reflection. I am very grateful to still be working at home in a career I still love, despite the ups and downs. We have been able to get our bathroom totally remodeled, get a great water filtration system (we have horrible water here with heavy lime build up prior to this system), and also got a new hot water heater.

While we hope to have the powder room and other bathroom remodeled in 2015, I am also looking at other desires...financial ones. I would love to pay our house off sooner than a little less than 8 years from now (refinanced to a 10 year mortgage 2 years ago September, which was a good thing or else we'd still have 21 years to go-lived here 9 years). If it was paid off I would not feel like I have to maintain the same earning level in order to meet all the financial demands and it would take a lot of pressure off me. Heck in 5 short years I could conceivably retire, (at 72.5% of my social security benefit, assuming that is still running - topic for another time). The word retirement will most likely not be a reality, at least I don't see it at this point. But it would be nice to at least know it is an option and if the mortgage were paid off ,it would be an option at least and not an 'impossible dream'.

I've also been looking and subscribe to some 'tiny house' publications and listings. These are houses that are 'tiny' only about 300 sq ft some less, some more. The tiny houses I've seen have been at wonderful prices, most under $50K. This is not an option at this point with 5 dogs and frankly this will probably never be a path that we'll take. There are a couple reasons for this. True tiny houses are not recognized as real estate so it is sometimes hard to find a place to set them permanently. They also are mobile and I would not want to come home from the store at some point with no home there (having it stolen by a pick up truck with the proper hitch).

Another reason I'll probably never live in a tiny home is the safety factor. There are so many natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes that I would be worried that my tiny house would not remain sound if it encountered one of these disasters. I realize many stick built homes may not fair very well either but a tiny home can be lifted and tossed around in a tornado like a rag doll, and that thought does not sit well with me.

Of course there won't be any move anyway for several years most likely. I moved my folks nearby and thankfully they are both fairly healthy even though they are in their upper 80's. I could see either one or both of them living another 5 years or more.

So again...just New Year's musings.

We took down the Christmas decorations today. Hubby still has the outside ones to take down but that isn't happening today. It is rainy and in the 30's outside so maybe when it is dry and warmer. No rush there anyway, we just won't plug them in. We are watching the third season of the TV series 24 these days. They are really good! We've seen all of them but this one and the last 8th (I think) season which we also bought to watch. I never really watched them when they were on. It must have been when something else was on TV at that time.

Going to end this here...The first of daily blogs. :-)
