Another week....

So it has been nearly a week since I blogged.  There isn't a whole lot new, thankfully.  Hubby's back is doing better and even though he's got a bad cold right now, he is still doing better in terms of his back. I am proud of him for making sure he takes it easy.

It was a busy work week but also got some reading done in the chronicles (book series) that the oldest and I are reading together.  This second book is more interesting that the first one I think. It is fun exchanging opinions and insights with each other.

I have been trying to walk in the morning but it stays dark so long that I set out for my walk later and I barely have time to clock in, let alone walk one of the dogs.  I've tried walking at the end of my work day but it is pretty warm (in the mid 80's) and sunny and not fun to walk at that time one bit.

I'm hoping with Daylight savings time that it will improve at least for a while again.  Hard to believe October is almost over.  I'm sure next week the Christmas ads will start appearing all over. Oye!

Evening sky the other night

I took this picture are few evenings ago at my mom's house making sure to avoid all telephone wires which is hard to do!

Enjoying a nice weekend with the youngest.  We had a nice lunch out at the outlets while her car was being checked out.  Then this evening after giving my mom dinner and playing cards for a bit, we had a nice dinner at Longhorn steakhouse to celebrate the events last month that were dampened by Steve's back injury.  It was a nice relaxing dinner and the steak was really yummy!

Hubby's back is feeling better but it will be awhile before he can lift anything over 10 lbs.  Still much better than a month ago though!

Half Day

Today I took a half  day off. It was tough clocking out for the day at noon, seeing all the work I had left. But I let it go. I did not check in to work the rest of the day!! :))

Hubby and I had plans to eat lunch at the Mexican restaurant up the street. There is one dish that he really loves where they prepare flambe' that has shrimp and cheese in it.   I got the cheese enchilada lunch plate and a yummy frozen margarita to drink.

Then I took my mom to her dentist appointment at 3:00PM.  I got to read some of the book I'm currently reading at the same time as the oldest. We're having fun discussing it as we go along.  It is nice to chat with her about it as it is fun to share and get each others perspective on things.

It was nice having the rest of the day off.  I even got to do some singing on SingSnap.  I hadn't sung on there since May!  But I have just been so busy with work and other things like my hubby's back problems.  We put so many things on hold, we still have to go out for our Anniversary dinner that we didn't do last month.  Hopefully we'll get to do that by the end of the month.

Looking forward to seeing the youngest this weekend too!

Full Moon

We were about to turn after being on the road coming home from mom's when I saw I think a full moon. I just happened to have my camera with me and here's the picture.  The reason I had my camera with me is because I ran back home to get mom's clean laundry and saw a nice buck with a big rack and was going to take a picture on the way back (and did not have my iphone with me).  No buck on the way back but since the camera was already in the car, I took a quick shot.

Hubby is doing better slowly but surely.  He is driving very short distances and getting around the house just fine.  He still does not bend too far and no lifting of anything more than a few pounds. I had a hair appointment today and am working this weekend too. But right now I'm off to go start a new book.

Lunch Post and hospitals

I figured I'd better blog while I can. I am done reading the book that my oldest suggested to me as I was reading that every chance I got. This was on top of all the other stuff going on in my life.

Hubby got his much needed  (and overdue based on the screaming/crying that came out of him) disc surgery last Monday.  Hospitals are not at all how I remember them either or maybe the ones around here just are not up to snuff.  I remember when I had my girls (C sections both) that I was coddled by the staff (for lack of a better word).

But for this operation it was so much different.  First off we had to buy a special antiseptic soap for me to rub onto hubby's back the morning of the operation while he showered.  He was in so much pain I didn't think he'd even get through the shower.  Then after we got to the hospital I asked them if they had a wheel chair because he really couldn't walk without excruciating pain.   The gal behind the desk said they were around the corner.  Okay stupid me.  I thought an orderly or someone would bring one around and get my husband into it.  I have no experience with wheel chairs!!  Nope I went and got it myself, unfolded it, took it outside to where the truck was parked (at the entrance) and was able to get hubby into it and wheeled to the inside of the front entrance. Then I had to get back to the truck and park it.

Once we got into his room the nurse pointed to some plastic wrapped 'wipes' for me to wipe my hubby down all over once he took his clothes off, and gave me a laminated paper with instructions.  My mouth dropped open.  Um excuse me but aren't the nurses supposed to do that???  I could not believe it. I obliged and did what I was told but who knows if I cleaned him enough and properly and why did we buy that stupid other cleanser if we were going to have to do this anyway??

Then the nurse who was 'taking care' of my hubby started to draw blood and such and had a hard time opening things, etc.  She looked to be in her late 50's/early 60's so I thought she'd do everything like clock work.  Nope.  You'd think it was her first day on the job.  And her tag had Registered Nurse on it so she should have been way more experienced.  Needless to say our confidence level was ZERO!!

But the doctor doing the operation is capable and did a good job. Hubby had to stay overnight for 24 hours due to some minor spinal fluid leak (if you put your head up after that occurs it can cause horrific headaches).   It took them until 7 PM that night to get him an 'overnight' room. Then poking and prodding through the night, he didn't get much sleep.  I was able to pick him up around noon and he was so happy to get out of there!

Fast forward to now.  He is getting around pretty well. Just some stiffness in his back. No more horrible pain down his leg.  He just started getting back into the truck a few days ago (as a passenger) and he did drive this morning to the store which is only a few miles away. He's been able to help me with the chores and such again so I am not feeling as overwhelmed as I had for about 3 weeks with all the things to handle.

That's all I have time to write for now.  But suffice to say I am not thrilled with the way this hospital does things anyway.  Hopefully there won't be another need for a hospital any time soon!

Sunday update

Well hubby has not gotten a bit better.  So he I took him to the neurologist last Wednesday where they squeezed him into a late, late afternoon slot at 5:15PM.  Otherwise we were looking at October and hubby could not wait any longer.  The doctor was hoping that the meds would do the trick to helping but they really didn't do much except make hubby sick.

So tomorrow he is getting his herniated disc removed.  I really hope and pray that it takes his excruciating pain away.  We'll find out.

Haven't had much time to blog as I have been doing everything that hubby normally does to help around the house and with my mom's nightly care and keeping up with work too left very little time for much else.  I made his favorite dinner today, crockpot meatloaf which was nice because it sure cuts down on meal prep come dinner time.  I love how the house smells great all day too!
