Addition Day 15.. barely

The wood boards have been secured on the cement for the outline(s) of the rooms. The contractor was here today by himself doing this for all of an hour or so. We asked him for a timeline at this point and he said he is thinking the end of March to be done.  I'll believe that when I see it!!

On to some other really GREAT news!!!  Recently mom decided it was time to get hearing aids!!  YES!!!!  She had a 2 hour long appointment today that hubby took her to. She has only 28% hearing in one ear and 48% in the other.  Definitely needs the hearings aids.  So by next week she should be able to hear so much better! I'm hoping she will stick with it and get used to them and not give up (as she tends to do with 'new' things).  Now I'll have to watch what I say in front of her. tee-hee

Rug pictures

Here's the photos of the rugs we got.  Since we love to collect antiques we went away from the normal 'Southwest' patterns that we usually get.  These rugs have more of an 'Old World' look to them I think and go nicely with our antique furnishings.

ONE OF THE DOGS IS TIMID TO WALK ON THE LAMINATES (REASON FOR SMALL RUGS)

WE GOT TWO SMALL AREA RUGS TOO

HERE IS THE RUG FOR THE MUSIC ROOM TO COVER SOME OF THE OLD CARPET

Addition Day 14.. again sort of

Yes, rain and more delays but anyway today the electrician moved the electrical box as required in order to proceed.  Below is the before and after photo. Since the contractor told me to leave a 3-4 hour window I took a half a day off but really only would have needed about an hour.  That's okay though because hubby and I went rug shopping and got a new living room rug and rug for the music room.  I forgot to take pictures of those and want to get this blog done before clocking in for the 2nd half of the work day.  The rug in the living room wasn't worn but after so long it starts to smell of dog no matter what...so was time to replace.  We got inexpensive ones from Home Depot.  Will post those in a separate post.

The materials were also dropped off so hopefully, fingers crossed and all...they will start framing tomorrow!! :)

Addition Day 13..well sort of

Today the guys took the rest of the wood and forms away from the foundation area and added some dirt but I need to take those pictures tomorrow. They also put a nice layer of cement around the perimeter of the foundation so it looks nice and smooth now. I do have one picture of that. See how smooth the side looks now?

The rest of the day was spent redoing our driveway.. FINALLY!!!!  It looks wonderful (and of course was a side project of our own having nothing to do with the addition).  They JUST got it done right before going to moms for her dinner. I'm sure when it dries it will lighten up some. It took them a lot of effort to get the tree trunk out.  They said it was still alive and growing some new sprouts. Oye!

Addition Day 12

Today the foundation forms were removed and they are still working on the clean up.  They didn't get here until the afternoon.

Here are just a few pictures of the foundation without the forms

Finshed!

I distressed the chifferobe a little bit and put the wax coating on every part I painted. Here is the finished pictures.

Antique chifferobe

So we've had this piece of furniture in our garage for oh maybe 4 years-ish....Hubby picked it up somewhere during his antique picking.  I fell in love with it instantly.  It has so much character and is different from any other antique I had seen. I was going to chalk paint it and add some 'distress' accents to it but just never got around to it. Then we were going to sell it.  And after being low-balled I said "let's just keep it!".  So we did.

One of the reasons I hadn't painted it was that we had no clue where we were going to place it in our house but since the youngest moved out more than a few years ago now, we decided to turn her old bedroom into a music room.  And we thought it would be a great idea to put this in there.  It can hold my guitar books, various things, or even the long part (which is for hanging clothes), may get used for some clothes. ;-)

Hubby got some of the concrete workers to take it up there for a small fee, as I do not want him to lift anything heavy ever again.  Even if he has help!   LOL

So here are some before pictures. Hubby sanded a little bit and wiped it down for me.  It had quite a few areas of chipping/peeling paint.

Here is after the first coat..

And after the second and final coat. Tomorrow I will use a little sand paper on it and then add the wax coating.  Looking pretty nice! Will post a few pictures of the final chifferobe tomorrow. Oh there is a mirror that goes up where that 'harp' is (above the drawers) in case anyone was wondering.

Can you find the doggy?

No construction today...concrete has to dry.  I did find out that the driveway was not done because the contractor is waiting for the permit from the city.  Well he never told me that.  I think he is getting so big (busy) that he doesn't remember what he says or doesn't say to people.  Not good.  But he's a nice guy and has done some nice bathroom remodels for us, so I'm still confident (hopeful) that this addition will go well.

We did not 'stage' Ditzy for these pictures. She did it all on her own. She loves to gather all the toys on the chair/couch. She almost looks like a larger stuffed animal. LOL  So adorable!!

Addition Day 11

This was all done yesterday but I forgot to blog about it. The concrete was poured!  It is official, we now have a foundation for the addition! Woo hoo!  The only (extreme!) disappointment that I have is that they did not touch our driveway at all . Who knows when or if they'll even get to it.  I might get other estimates at this point for that as I am tired of dealing with that driveway issue.

Here are the pictures hubby took.

Super Bowl Sunday

Well here it is Super Bowl Sunday and boy oh boy am I looking forward to the commercials!  Yes that is what I look forward to the most.  I don't really care who wins frankly but I do hope no one gets seriously injured.  Hope it is a fair game too with non football deflation, lol.

It is cloudy out today although I have to say it is in the low 70's right now so we have the back door open a little bit.  Hey with 4 dogs it is much more convenient to have the door open than shut.

Yesterday it was cool and it drizzled all day but enough about the weather.  The contractor for our addition dropped by on Friday.  The inspector requires some things to be corrected before he'll pass the inspection for the concrete to be poured.  I'm glad someone is making sure everything is done right and up to code. But it also means more delays as the needed tweaks if you will have not been done yet.  So hopefully early this week they will be.

I did work some today but only about a half a day and am watching movies until the Super Bowl starts.  Yesterday I spent some time on Sing Snap doing some singing and hubby and I ate Mexican for lunch. It has been a nice weekend.

February already?

Hard to believe it is February already.  But it was a great day yesterday. Although it was February 1st it got to 82 degrees here!  Woo hoo!  I just love the weather in Texas.

Notice I didn't title my post Addition day #..so and so.  There has not been enough to even call it a actual day of addition work.  There were some men out here two days ago, inspecting, reviewing, whatever, not sure. This was after the rest of the rebar was put down.  Sort of like that joke.. how many men does it take to screw in a light bulb?. .:)

Anyway yesterday someone was marking the water (electric?) lines with spray paint (can). And someone else came by and don't know what they did.  I ended up asking my contractor if the concrete was being poured or not (yesterday) because I had to take mom to the eye doctor (and since they're suppose to fix the driveway the same day, I wanted to make sure I could get out okay).  But he said we are waiting for inspections.  Today.. nothing has happened and it is nearly 1:30PM. So another beautiful sunny day they didn't pour.  They're probably waiting for a rainy day!

Once the concrete is poured, it will be another 10 days to let it set. So it may be the latter part of the month before any actual sticks of wood can go up.  I'm trying to be patient but it is hard.  I don't want them purposely taking a long time or doing a shoddy job if I become a total B**ch.  So I am putting on a smile, finishing my lunch and devoting my attention to work this afternoon...no really! :)
