Shorty

Just writing a short one tonight.

Got a lot done today.  Helped my mom out with some things and also go the crock pot meat loaf on this morning and made some 5 minute fudge in the afternoon.

Late morning hubby and I went out and got some supplies for the powder room that is supposed to be started on Wednesday. We got the toilet, mirror, lights, faucets, cabinet.  I'm going to stress paint the cabinet because it is boring white.  I plan to work on that Monday night (it is not very big so won't be a big deal).

Also got some work done and a load of laundry for mom. Then hubby and I ate dinner over at her house with our crock pot in hand.  All in all a good day!

Sitting here..

..just waiting for the pizza to arrive.  I'm getting bread sticks too because I am pretty hungry and want a little more than just a pizza.

I have to share a picture I took this morning.  As I usually do every morning, I looked at what I was wearing to pick some jewelry to go with it. When I spotted this necklace I thought it would go nicely with my top.  Little did I know how camouflage it was! :)  See?   Too funny!!

I'm done work for the night. Yippee!! We actually got some rain yesterday for the first time in 50 days (according to the weather man). It wasn't significant but we'll take whatever we can get.  It is almost weird when it rains now because it has been so long since it has rained.  Yesterday I looked out the window, saw that the sun wasn't blaring down and wondered what the heck was going on at first. :)

Foot in mouth

Don't you just hate when you put your foot in your mouth?.. Well I should have anyway (put my foot there!!).  We have a neighbor who was so very nice to us by coming to my dad's funeral and he has been out of town for over 2 weeks, perhaps 3 and just came back a few days ago. His father has been in a coma and he was likely on his last days.

This evening he called and I asked him if his father met his maker.  I didn't mean to be glib, it was just that I thought he had passed a little while ago because I figured he was gone so long because there was the funeral and estate settlement or at least put in motion.  Well no he was calling because his father just passed away a few hours ago and he had to go out of town again and wondered if we could watch their dog.  I didn't know that as I had hung up shortly after he called ..but not before I stuck my foot in my mouth!

Hubby picked up the phone at the same time so I had hung up after a few minutes.  When he told me later that this guy's dad had just died a few hours ago I called him up to apologize.  I didn't want to sound like I didn't have a heart.  I honestly thought it had been nearly a month since his dad passed. Oops.. He was fine and said he didn't think anything of my comment.   Oh well.  I did tell him I was sincerely sorry before I hung up.  Next time I won't be so quick to speak before thinking!

You know you need a break...

When things that normally don't bother you about work get to you really fast.  So it is time to take a few days off next month.  That is a good month to take off anyway with all the birthdays and our 16th wedding anniversary. Yup 16 years.  Sometimes it seems time flew, other times not.

Lately it seems time is going faster, must be with age time seems to go faster. That must be because it is running out.

Yesterday I made sun tea. This is when I fill a large jug with cold fresh (bottled) water, put a few tea bags in it, and let it sit in the sun for a few hours.  It is the natural way to make iced tea.  The bad part is I woke up around 4:00AM and remembered that I never brought the jug back in !!! ARGH!!  So that was a wasted batch.

Started all over again today and remembered this time. Iced tea is all done and chillin' in the fridge.

School starts next week around here.  There have been a ton of back to school ads on TV and there was a news story today that some areas are testing the school zones lights. Other than seeing the school bus in the morning, there probably won't be much difference in our neighborhood anyway.  I rarely see any kids 'outside playing'. There aren't a lot of families right now with kids on our streets.  There have been a few new families that moved in the last year or so but still is relatively quiet.

Sometimes I miss the hustle and bustle of back to school shopping for the girls, orientation, football games and such.  I know I could still go to the football games at the high school if I wanted but I don't really see the point in it.  I wouldn't know any of the kids playing and my youngest is no longer in Georgettes, so it would be, well strange.

I am looking forward to some new TV shows this fall. TV has been rather boring this summer, although I have enjoyed watching Extant and Zoo, but usually there is a lot more than interests me. For lack of anything better to watch we often have America's Got Talent on but I can take or leave that show.  I do find America Ninja Warrior surprisingly interesting and find myself cheering them on. Too bad more women do not make it very far.  But I'm not going to complain watching the men. :-)

Short Note

I'm just stopping by because I said I would try to write every day again :)

I am a bit tired, just got done work .  Not anything new to really write about today. Still got those medical supplies and someone mentioned on facebook that maybe an animal shelter can use them.  I didn't really understand how but the could cut the catheters and use for feeding tubes or whatever.  I don't know.  That will be an option I suppose if I cannot donate them for 'human' use.  lol

Jimmy Fallon just came on so I'm going to hit the sack and catch a few minutes of him.

Nite!

Can't give it away

This weekend I took out a little time to take stock of the medical supplies that were left over from dad's house that were not used.  There are: 1 unopened box of 30 '14 FR' Urinary Catheters, 3 boxes with 12 each - Red latex catheters, 12 Foley catheters, 100 swabsticks, 4 - Foley insertion trays, 4- Urinary Drainage Bags, 2- Latex free urinary Drainage bags and 4 - urinary leg bags. These must be at least a couple hundred dollars worth if not more.  I called a place down in Austin that someone told me should take these unopened supplies and they weren't interested. The man I talked to suggested I contact some local assisted living or elder care places.  I posted on Facebook instead to see if anyone could use them or know a local place that could use them.  I don't have a lot of time to call places.  I did call one place that a gal let me know may take them as she worked there part-time.  It is an assisted living type of place.  The person I got the name to contact was not there but I asked someone else if they might be interested.  The answer I got was that the nurses that come bring their own supplies.

It is very frustrating when all I am doing is trying to help out someone who may be able to use these supplies and not just waste them by throwing them out!  I get that people tend to be leary, but once they would see the unopened boxes and wrapped up catheters and bags, they could see they have not been tampered with nor used.  I'll give it a couple more day and see what happens.  If it goes over another week with no interest I'll just throw all these supplies out.  That would be a shame though.  So we'll see what happens.

On a more pleasant note, we are getting estimates to get the last two bathrooms done.  I'm excited to get them done. Then it will seem like we practically have a new house :-) . Hubby's already replaced the flooring in the living room, and two of the three bedrooms.  His buddy at Christmas built up our stairs and replaced the carpet on them and the upstairs hallway. And I've posted before about the improvements we did to the kitchen which I think at this point was about 7 years ago now, maybe not but it has been awhile since we got the granite countertops, sink and stove.

So something to look forward to as the fall season approaches.

Another start to another week

Here it is Sunday evening. Another week has started.  I got a good amount of work done this weekend and left myself set for a good day tomorrow (ie., not a late night in store...woo hoo!).   I didn't get my office cleaned out like I wanted to but there wasn't enough time.  I did get a few other minor things done such as writing down the medical supplies that were left from my dad passing, like catheters and such. I'm going to call a place I heard about tomorrow that may accept medical supplies as I just hate to throw out perfectly good, sealed unused supplies.

I made a turkey breast in the crock pot today.  Man that smelled good cooking all day long!  It was hard to not cut a slice in the afternoon.  But I managed to hold off.  We took some turkey and stuffing over to my mom's for her dinner. It made it easy.  There is enough for her to have leftovers for a dinner another evening this week.

Although there are moments where she gets sad or every teary eyed about my dad's passing, she is a real trooper and is doing well considering.

My oldest had her first high school reunion this weekend, her 10th.  It is hard to believe she's already having high school reunions! I hope she had a great time.  She married someone from the same high school. I wonder how many married couples there were that from high school? :)  My 40th high school reunion was held in July back east but I didn't go.  A few friends from high school that are on facebook asked me to please go to the next one.  I suppose I could give it a try. It was nice to hear I was actually missed.  I was just back east last August for the oldest's wedding so didn't want to make the trip out again so soon, not that I wouldn't have loved to see the oldest again.  I really don't like to fly!

Well tomorrow is another day....
